Victorian Terrace House, Hampstead
A quiet dialogue between period architecture and confident new making, held together by texture, light and restraint.
This Victorian terrace was reimagined room by room, balancing the preservation of its original character — ceiling roses, deep skirtings, sash windows — with a considered programme of new work to the rear of the house.
At the back, a lime-plastered garden room extension replaces a dated kitchen, its glazed pitched roof and full-height glazing drawing daylight down into a space finished in deep, tactile tones that sit in deliberate contrast to the pale calm of the original rooms.
Upstairs, a restrained material palette continues — rust linen, walnut and bronze against calm, panelled walls — while the kitchen was rebuilt in sage-green joinery and honed concrete, opening the ground floor into one considered sequence of rooms.
