Developed around the clients' appreciation for the natural colours and expressive veining of stone, Carlyle Close explores how material, proportion and light can shape the character of a home.
Developed around the clients’ appreciation for the natural colours and expressive veining of stone, Carlyle Close explores how material, proportion and light can shape the character of a home.
One of the defining interventions was the decision to lower the ground floor, increasing ceiling heights and transforming the proportions of the principal living spaces. This created a more generous architectural framework for the interior, allowing natural light and materiality to take greater presence.
Richly veined stone is balanced with warm walnut, softly textured finishes and bespoke joinery, with each material selected for its individual character rather than uniformity. Hand-applied selenite details bring subtle mineral translucency and craftsmanship to the bespoke shelving. Natural variations in colour and veining are celebrated, while careful detailing and restraint allow these stronger materials to sit comfortably alongside one another.
Throughout the home, changing daylight reveals the depth and texture of the surfaces, bringing warmth and movement to an otherwise composed palette.
The result is a home that feels grounded, enduring and quietly confident, where expressive natural materials are given room to breathe and craftsmanship, proportion and light bring balance to the whole.
