Courtyard House, Hampstead
A reworking of a compact Victorian home, focused on creating a greater sense of space through careful planning, natural light and a stronger connection to the garden.
The existing layout was reconsidered to improve flow and make everyday spaces work harder without overfilling them. Enlarging the opening to the courtyard brought planting, daylight and views deeper into the interior, allowing the garden to become part of the experience of the room and extending its perceived boundaries.
Throughout the house, restrained architectural interventions respond to the compact footprint. Rooflights bring daylight into previously enclosed areas, while glazing, integrated storage and carefully planned bathrooms maintain openness and visual continuity.
A quiet palette of natural stone, warm metals and timber is punctuated by moments of colour and character, creating a home that feels calm, personal and more generous than its footprint suggests.
