The Vale, Finchley
A considered reworking of an existing family home, retaining what worked and rethinking the areas where changes could make the greatest difference.
The entrance hall was upgraded through a series of architectural interventions, including a new door to the living room framed by bespoke joinery, and a refined staircase with glass and a timber handrail.
Upstairs, the principal bedroom and en-suite were reconfigured to create a more generous bathroom, with distinct bathing and showering zones. A freestanding bath sits against dramatically veined marble, while the separate walk-in shower incorporates built-in seating and recessed niches. The client's appreciation for the natural movement and character of stone informed the more expressive material palette.
Elsewhere, selective alterations improved existing bathrooms and introduced a new laundry room, balancing new interventions with what could be retained.
The result is a series of thoughtful changes that improve how the existing house works while bringing moments of greater material character and generosity.
